Chemistry Internship: Surface Particle Analysis

Background Information
The Cleanliness of Parts group operates under the Defectivity Department, providing support to ASML, its suppliers, and cleaning service providers. This group is responsible for the design, manufacturing, assembly, cleaning, and verification of components, modules, and systems to ensure they meet cleanliness specifications as per customer requirements.
To achieve this, the Cleanliness of Parts group develops various measurement techniques aimed at qualifying the cleanliness of parts, including a specialized tool for assessing surface particle cleanliness.
Your Assignment
During your internship, you will delve into the behavior of particle contamination on surfaces and the underlying mechanisms of the verification methods. Your focus will include:
- Creating methodologies for particle deposition to simulate contamination on various surfaces.
- Assessing the effectiveness of measurement tools designed to evaluate surface cleanliness concerning particles.
As an intern, you will take ownership of the methodologies and documentation, applying your knowledge to contamination measurements conducted at ASML and throughout our supply chain. Additionally, you will gain valuable experience working in a cleanroom setting.
Your Profile
The ideal candidate for this internship should meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in Physics, Material Science, Chemistry, or Engineering.
- A bachelor’s student (thesis or apprenticeship) or a master’s student seeking practical experience.
- Possess a strong interest in surface/interfacial chemistry and materials chemistry.
- Have a keen interest in transitioning processes from research and development to production.
- Experience with statistical analysis software is advantageous.
- Familiarity with cleanroom environments, SEM-EDX measurements, and various spectroscopic techniques (UV/Vis, fluorescence, NMR, FTIR) is a plus.
- Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a solution-oriented mindset.
- Exhibit effective communication and networking abilities.
Other Requirements
- Availability for 5 days a week for a minimum of 6 months.
- Must be enrolled in an educational institution for the entire duration of the internship.
- Must be located in the Netherlands for the internship.
