Department Insights
The Cleanliness of Parts group operates under the Defectivity Department, providing essential support to ASML, its suppliers, and cleaning service providers. The group is responsible for the design, production, assembly, cleaning, and verification of mono-parts, modules, and systems, ensuring they meet cleanliness standards that align with customer specifications.
To achieve this, the Cleanliness of Parts group is engaged in the development of various measurement techniques aimed at qualifying the cleanliness of components, including a specialized tool for assessing surface particle cleanliness.
Your Role
During your internship, you will delve into the behavior of particle contamination on surfaces and the underlying mechanisms of the verification methods employed. Your focus will include:
- Creating methodologies for particle deposition to simulate contamination on various surfaces.
- Assessing the effectiveness of measurement tools designed to evaluate surface cleanliness in relation to particles.
As an intern, you will take ownership of the methodologies and related documentation, applying your knowledge to contamination measurements conducted at ASML and within the supply chain. You will also gain hands-on experience in our cleanroom facilities.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate for this internship should meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in Physics, Material Science, Chemistry, or Engineering.
- A bachelor’s student (for thesis or apprenticeship) or a master’s student seeking practical experience (for internship).
- Possess a strong interest in surface and interfacial chemistry as well as materials chemistry.
- Be keen on translating processes from a research and development context into production.
- Have familiarity with software tools that facilitate statistical analysis.
- Experience in cleanroom environments, SEM-EDX measurements, and various spectroscopic techniques (such as UV/Vis, fluorescence, NMR, FTIR) is advantageous.
- Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a solution-oriented mindset.
- Exhibit effective communication and networking abilities.
Additional Requirements
- Availability for a minimum of 5 days per week for at least 6 months.
- Enrollment in an educational institution for the entire duration of the internship.
- Residency in the Netherlands is required for the internship.
