Job Title: PhD Candidate in Environmental History

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD candidate to join our team at the Universiteit Leiden. The successful candidate will be part of a research project focused on the environmental history of mining sites in southern Africa.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct original research on the environmental impact of mining in southern Africa.
  • Collect and analyze empirical data from various sources, including archival research and fieldwork.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of the research project.
  • Submit regular reports and articles for publication.
  • Attend academic conferences and events.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as history, anthropology, archaeology, or sociology.
  • Demonstrable interest in environmental history and mining studies.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Fluency in English and proficiency in another language, such as German.
