The energy transition is driving significant changes in the chemical industry, with a growing need for sustainable and efficient processes. As part of the NWO-funded Vidi project, we are seeking a PhD candidate to contribute to the development of new electrochemical membrane technologies. The successful candidate will work closely with our team to design, synthesize, and characterize novel membrane materials, with a focus on improving selectivity, water management, and catalyst interaction.
The PhD project will involve a combination of experimental and theoretical work, including the development of new membrane structures, the study of ion transport and selectivity, and the implementation of high-tech optical techniques to map the flow and concentration of reactants inside an operating electrochemical cell. The candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with industrial partners and contribute to the development of scalable and performant electrochemical technologies.
Requirements- A MSc degree in chemical engineering, process technology, mechanical engineering, water technology, biotechnology, or a related field
- Excellent track record in terms of grades and university background
- Experience with performing experimental work and working with process design and electrochemical systems
- Pro-active and creative mind-set
- Fluent in English; speaking Dutch is a plus
The PhD candidate will be offered a 4-year period of employment, with a starting date between November 2024 and February 2025. The salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from €2770 per month in the first year to €3539 in the fourth year. The TU Delft offers a customizable compensation package, discounts on health insurance, and a monthly work costs contribution.
