Head of Casualty Operations

About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned professional to lead our Casualty Underwriting team in the Netherlands. As Head of Casualty Operations, you will be responsible for managing a team of underwriters and driving business results in terms of profitability, penetration, and volume.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and implement production and profitability goals for the Casualty Underwriting team.
  • Direct accountability for business results in the Netherlands, including profitability, penetration, and volume.
  • Develop and execute the long-term business strategy for Casualty Underwriting, including all accounts and product lines.
  • Serve as a technical expert and exercise technical authority for major or multiple insurance product lines.
  • Manage the annual budget process and monthly forecasts for Casualty Underwriting.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to implement tools and strategies to attract and retain top industry talent and develop a high-performing team.
  • Identify areas of bench strength and develop training and recruiting platforms to address deficiencies.
  • Establish strong relationships with leadership and create mutual understanding of overall parameters and goals.
  • Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Oversee underwriters and make decisions regarding pay, performance management, development, employment, and staffing.
  • Ensure governance, systems, and controls, and regulatory compliance are established and maintained.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Sufficient Commercial Insurance Company, Agency, or Brokerage experience.
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Analytical and quantitative skills; familiarity with actuarial data.
  • Knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition, and distribution.
  • Process and system skills.
  • Experience with budgeting and expense control.
  • Experience managing or leading a team is preferred.
