Job Description

At TU Delft, we are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team in the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management. The successful candidate will be part of a research project focused on identifying socio-economic tipping points and positive levers for scaling up nature-based solutions.

Research Objectives

The PhD researcher will be responsible for:

  • Developing and applying computational agent-based modeling to capture the mechanisms driving tipping to nature-based solutions adoption.
  • MAPPING short-, mid-, and long-term benefits and costs for private and public actors.
  • Exploring the distributional effects of nature-based solutions for various actors and identifying circumstances under which positive socio-economic tipping points emerge.
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, the candidate should have:

  • A Master's degree in Environmental Policy, Spatial or Environmental Economics, Complex Systems Science, or Environmental Science.
  • Previous experience with agent-based modeling or programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Julia.
  • Capacity to perform statistical data analysis.
  • Domain knowledge in environmental policy, sustainability, or nature-based solutions.
  • Excellent written and spoken command of English.
Conditions of Employment

The PhD researcher will be offered a 4-year period of employment, with a 1.5-year contract followed by a 2.5-year contract, assuming satisfactory performance.

The salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from € 2770 per month in the first year to € 3539 in the fourth year.
