PhD Position in Public Engagement and Geothermal Energy Research

As part of a large European transdisciplinary research project, we are seeking a candidate to investigate how local cultures affect perceptions of geothermal energy. The successful candidate will design a questionnaire based on a literature review, distribute it across different countries, and analyse the data to report on the findings in scientific publications. Additionally, the researcher will develop a manual for stakeholders, such as energy companies, who engage with local communities. This manual will be experimentally tested for effectiveness and quality using randomised controlled trials.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in Psychology, Communication Science, Cultural Anthropology, Sociology, Public Administration, or a related field. They should be skilled in designing surveys and experiments and have expertise in quantitative data analysis, such as SPSS or R. A curiosity-driven mindset and passion for research are essential. Affinity with technology is also appreciated, as the project requires working in a tech environment. Excellent communication skills, including speaking, writing, and listening, are necessary, as well as outstanding project management skills. Fluency in English (IELTS C1 level or higher) is required, as the project involves international collaboration and scientific publications.
Conditions of Employment
The doctoral candidate will be offered a 4-year period of employment, consisting of two employment contracts. The initial contract will be for 1.5 years, with a progress assessment within 15 months. Assuming satisfactory performance, the candidate will be offered a second contract for the remaining 2.5 years. The salary and benefits will be in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from € 2770 per month in the first year to € 3539 in the fourth year. As a PhD candidate, you will be enrolled in the TU Delft Graduate School, which provides an inspiring research environment with excellent supervision, academic staff, and a mentor.
