Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to investigate how local cultures affect perceptions of geothermal energy as part of a large European transdisciplinary research project.

The successful candidate will design a questionnaire to be distributed across different countries, analyze the data, and report on the findings in scientific publications. Additionally, they will develop a manual for stakeholders, such as energy companies, who engage with local communities, and experimentally test the effectiveness and quality of the manual using randomized controlled trials.

Requirements

Candidates must have a Master's degree in Psychology, Communication Science, Cultural Anthropology, Sociology, Public Administration, or a related field. They should be skilled in designing surveys and experiments and have expertise in quantitative data analysis (e.g., SPSS or R). A curiosity-driven mindset and a passion for research are essential.

Affinity with technology is appreciated, as the project requires working in a tech environment. Excellent communication skills, including speaking, writing, and listening, and outstanding project management skills are also required.

Fluency in English (IELTS C1 level or higher) is necessary, as the project requires English proficiency to ensure effective communication and interaction.

Conditions of Employment

Doctoral candidates will be offered a 4-year period of employment, with an initial 1.5-year contract and a progress assessment within 15 months. The remaining 2.5 years will be contingent upon satisfactory performance and meeting performance requirements.

The salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from €2770 per month in the first year to €3539 in the fourth year. As a PhD candidate, you will be enrolled in the TU Delft Graduate School, which provides an inspiring research environment with excellent supervision, academic staff, and a mentor.

The TU Delft offers a customizable compensation package, discounts on health insurance, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.
