Postdoctoral Researcher in Solar Energy for Decarbonizing Heating and Cooling in Urban Areas

This postdoctoral research position is part of the BEHeaT program, a large-scale research program focused on the energy transition in the built environment. The program aims to develop integrated solutions for energy harvesting, energy storage, and energy savings from both a technological and building integration perspective.
Research Objectives- Modeling of 3D solar irradiance distribution in the built environment
- Feasibility studies on various solar energy technologies, storage technologies (thermal and electrical), and heating/cooling technologies
- Development of conceptual system designs
- Prototyping and explorative testing of selected systems
The postdoctoral researcher will work between the Building Performance group of the Department of the Built Environment and the Energy Technology group of the Mechanical Engineering Department. The researcher will be part of an interdisciplinary team and will have the opportunity to collaborate with industrial partners.
Requirements- PhD in Architectural Engineering, Sustainable Energy Technology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a comparable domain
- Demonstrable experience in energy simulation (e.g. EnergyPlus, Trnsys, PVlib), scripting, and data analysis (e.g. using Python, Matlab or R)
- Ability to conduct high-quality academic research, reflected in demonstratable outputs
- Team player with excellent communication skills
- Proven ability to manage complex projects to completion on schedule
- Full-time employment for 21 months
- Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale 10
- Year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%
