D&E Design and Engineering is tasked with developing the latest platform releases that ASML provides to its esteemed clients. Our department collaborates to ensure that the next generation of chips is manufactured efficiently and cost-effectively.

The D&E EUV Transmissive Image Sensor (TIS) team is responsible for a critical sub-function of the entire machine. Our primary objective is to achieve precise alignment between the Reticle (object) and the Wafer (image) with sub-nanometer accuracy. We utilize a sensor diode along with a specific pattern design to identify the Aerial Image location, which indicates where light should be directed onto the wafer, enabling high-accuracy printing of the object.

TIS also plays a vital role in pellicle detection. The pellicle serves as a protective membrane in front of the reticle, safeguarding it from contamination that could compromise the integrity of these highly valuable components.

Your Assignment

This internship will concentrate on the functionality of the Pellicle Detection Rupture System (PDRS), rather than the alignment capabilities of TIS.

The objectives of this assignment include:

  • Developing an emulation model to replicate the PDRS measurement methodologies.
  • Validating the model with actual machine data from ASML's latest machines.
  • Upon successful validation, further studies may be conducted to explore the operational ranges where PDRS can be effectively supported by TIS.
  • Comprehensive documentation of your preliminary findings is expected.

Your Profile

The ideal candidate for this internship should possess the following qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a bachelor's or master's program in Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Strong coding skills, preferably with experience in MATLAB and Python programming.
  • Familiarity with Object-Oriented Programming, capable of conducting simulations, analyses, and data visualizations.
  • Solid understanding of statistics, optics, and data processing techniques.
  • Knowledge in material science or sensor architecture is advantageous.
  • A proactive attitude, excellent communication skills, and a curious mindset are essential.

Additional requirements include:

  • This internship can be combined with a graduation project, lasting a minimum of 6 months.
  • Full-time commitment of 40 hours per week (5 days).
  • Continuous enrollment at a higher education institution throughout the internship duration.
  • Residency in the Netherlands is required for the internship.
