ASML is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge lithography machines for the semiconductor industry. Our Design and Engineering (D&E) department plays a crucial role in ensuring that the latest platforms are released efficiently for our esteemed clients, enabling the production of next-generation chips in a cost-effective manner.

The D&E EUV Transmissive Image Sensor (TIS) team is dedicated to a specific function within the machine, primarily focusing on the precise alignment of the Reticle (object) and the Wafer (image) with sub-nanometer accuracy. Utilizing a sensor diode alongside a pattern design, we can accurately determine the Aerial Image location, guiding the machine on where to direct light onto the wafer for high-accuracy printing.

Additionally, TIS is tasked with the detection of the pellicle, a protective membrane that safeguards the expensive reticles from contamination.

Your Responsibilities

This internship will concentrate on the functionality of the Pellicle Detection Rupture System (PDRS), distinct from the alignment functions of TIS.

The objectives of this internship include:

  • Developing an emulation model to replicate the PDRS measurement methodologies.
  • Validating the model using actual machine data from ASML's latest machines.
  • Upon successful validation, further exploring the operational ranges where PDRS can be supported by TIS.
  • Providing thorough documentation of your preliminary investigations.

Your Profile

The ideal candidate for this internship should possess:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • A strong interest in programming, preferably with experience in MATLAB and Python.
  • Familiarity with Object-Oriented Programming, capable of conducting simulations, analyses, and data visualizations.
  • Solid knowledge of statistics, optics, and data processing techniques.
  • Understanding of material science and sensor architecture is advantageous.
  • A proactive attitude, excellent communication skills, and a curious mindset.

Additional Requirements

  • This internship can be combined with a graduation project and requires a commitment of at least 6 months.
  • Full-time availability for 40 hours per week is expected.
  • Candidates must be enrolled in a higher education institution for the duration of the internship.
  • Location in the Netherlands is necessary for the internship.
