Lead a Team of Motivated Casualty Underwriters

About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned professional to lead a team of motivated casualty underwriters in the Netherlands. As the Head of Casualty, you will report to the local General Manager and be responsible for managing all divisional underwriting within the country.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish, implement, and evaluate production and profitability goals for the team.
  • Direct accountability for business results, including profitability, penetration, and volume within specific accounts, segments, products, or lines of business.
  • Drive and execute the long-term business strategy for the casualty line of business, including all accounts for product accounts.
  • Serve as a technical expert, exercising technical authority with regards to major or multiple insurance product lines.
  • Manage annual budget processes for insurance product lines within casualty.
  • Manage monthly forecasts for insurance product lines within casualty.
  • In collaboration with stakeholders, implement tools and strategies to attract and retain top industry talent and develop a high-performing team.
  • Identify areas/positions within the line of business that lack sufficient bench strength and develop plans to address deficiencies.
  • Establish strong relationships with leadership and create mutual understanding of overall parameters and goals to drive effective execution of the business model.
  • Interact with all levels of the insurance community.
  • Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Oversee underwriters in decisions regarding pay, performance management, development, employment, and staffing.
  • Ensure required standards of governance, systems, and controls, and regulatory compliance are established and maintained.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Sufficient commercial insurance company, agency, or brokerage experience.
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Analytical and quantitative skills; familiarity with actuarial data.
  • Knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition, and distribution.
  • Process and system skills.
  • Experience with budgeting and expense control.
  • Experience managing or leading a team is preferred.
