Bilingual Teaching Assistant for Elementary School

About the Role

The American School of The Hague is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Elementary School Teaching Assistant to support our students in a dual language environment. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping our students achieve academic success and develop their language skills in both Dutch and English.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the classroom teacher in implementing the educational program, including work with students individually, in small groups, or as an entire class.
  • Monitor student progress and help assess students under the guidance of the teacher.
  • Support the teacher's classroom management plan and philosophy.
  • Direct parent inquiries regarding students' behaviors and instruction to the classroom teacher.
  • Attend special area classes with the students and provide support at the request of the special area teacher.
  • Supervise students at recess, lunch, during transitions, etc.
  • Assist with preparing lessons and ensuring the classroom is ready for student learning.
  • Accompany classes on field trips.
  • Assume teaching role when asked to substitute for the classroom teacher.
  • Attend all faculty and whole school meetings.

Requirements

  • Certificated Elementary School Teaching Assistant with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent university degree.
  • Fluent in both Dutch and English.
  • Experience working with young children, preferably in an American, Canadian, or international school.
  • Theoretical understanding and classroom experience in applying developmentally appropriate, inclusive, and differentiated practices.
